Southampton University Radio Glen 1602 kHz Memories

The Radio Glen 312m Elephant or Heffalump Logo

Once upon a time, back around 1978, Radio Glen came into being at the Glen Eyre Halls of Residence in Southampton. Here are some of my memories from 1990 to 1993, and a few from a bit later too. As seen in the above picture, the original frequency was 312m or 963kHz, later 1602 kHz 188m (actually closer to 187m, but 188 metres sounds better) and finally on 1 Watt free radiating LPAM 1287 kHz 233m, briefly as Radio Glen and thenceforth SURGE, originally standing for the compromise acronym Southampton University Radio from Glen Eyre.
